Given my previous experience with the God of War series, I didn’t really care about the announcement of the series return. Not that I didn’t like the games, but I only truly enjoyed the second game and since the third entry haven’t even bothered with the Ascension or the PSP titles. But then the game got released on PS4 and everyone praised… the story? In a God of War game? That piqued my interest, but the lack of a PS4 of my own (and the abundance of games I could play anyway) led me to safely wait until some later re-release or a port of the game will allow me to check it out.

Now with the exceptional PC port available, I was finally able to play and enjoy the game myself.

Учитывая мой предыдущий опыт с серией God of War, анонс этой части меня мало заинтересовал. Не то чтобы старые игры мне не нравились, но действительно заинтересовала меня только вторая часть. А после третьей я даже не смотрел в сторону Ascension или игр для PSP. Но после выхода этой части на PS4 все очень хвалили… историю? В God of War? Это меня и заинтриговало, но без личной PS4 (и с обилием других игр, в которые я хотел играть) я решил подождать пока игру неизбежно не переиздадут или портируют позже.

С выходом отличного порта на ПК я наконец получил шанс пройти игру сам.

O tempora: Final Fantasy IV (Pixel Remaster)

O tempora is a series of retrospective posts where I play games from ages before to see if they stood the test of time.

Final Fantasy IV has not been the first Final Fantasy I played. But it is the only title in the franchise so far that I’ve played more than twice. In fact, this Pixel Remaster playthrough has been the… fourth playthrough, I believe. As I’ve previously played through the original “Final Fantasy II” release, the unofficial translation of FFIV, the Final Fantasy Chronicles release on PS1 and the Final Fantasy IV Advance version on the GBA. I’ve also attempted to play the 3D remake for DS, but extremely disliked the visual style and changes to the game. Hence, why I was so excited about the Pixel Remaster version coming – hopefully the “ultimate” remaster of the original version of the game, available for generations to come. And this version is pretty much exactly that.

О времена — серия ретроспективных записей, в которых я прохожу игры из другого времени и проверяю, прошли ли они испытание временем.

Final Fantasy IV не была моей первой частью Final Fantasy, но это единственная игра серии, которую я проходил больше двух раз. Собственно, это прохождение Pixel Remaster версии стало… четвёртым, вроде бы. Я проходил первую международную “Final Fantasy II” версию, неофициальный перевод японского оригинала, версию игры из Final Fantasy Chronicles для PS1 и Final Fantasy IV Advance на GBA. Я даже пробовал пройти 3D римейк игры для DS, но он мне ужасно не понравился стилем и переменами. Поэтому я был очень рад новому Pixel Remaster изданию, которое казалось самой лучшей версией игры. В принципе, именно такой она и получилась.

In love with: Life is Strange: True Colors

I have a weird relationship with the Life is Strange series. I hated the original when I first played it and only after giving it a second chance three years later understood why people liked it. Even so, despite my newfound respect, I didn’t quite love it as much as I wanted to see it evolve and become as good as it could be. Before the Storm was also played late, mostly because of the reception the game got. And yet, I liked it far more and in fact, spoilers, it remains my favorite entry in the series as of now. Then there was Life is Strange 2 which had so many pointless and bizarre decisions and detours in the story that by the end it ended up feeling like a mess. So I was glad that True Colors was going to be handled by Deck Nine, who worked on Before the Storm, and had high hopes for this one. It didn’t quite stick the landing.

С серией Life is Strange у меня странные отношения. Первую попытку пройти оригинал я провалил и только через 3 года дал игре шанс показать за что её так любят. Но даже не смотря на то, что я теперь игру уважал, мне скорее было любопытно увидеть куда серия двинется дальше. Поэтому прохладные обзоры на Before the Storm тоже отложили моё прохождение. Но в итоге игра мне понравилась ещё больше и, спойлеры, она до сих пор остаётся моей любимой в серии. А потом ещё была Life is Strange 2, в которой было столько бестолковых и бессмысленных решений и ответвлений в сюжете, что под конец она превращалась в кашу. Поэтому, я заранее обрадовался, что True Colors разрабатывали Deck Nine, которые сделали Before the Storm. Мои ожидания почти оправдались.

When I saw the announcement trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and the gameplay it was showcasing, I immediately wrote the game off as something that I’m not going to play. But then the game got released to extremely positive reviews and even some people I know personally played it and praised it. So I decided to give it a go and see for myself what was so good about this game that looked so boring in the previews. And, well, the bits that were shown are indeed quite boring. It’s just that the rest of the game is shockingly fantastic.

Первый трейлер Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy особой надежды не внушал. Геймплей выглядел настолько скучным, что я сразу же забыл про игру и не планировал в неё играть совсем. Но сразу после выхода её начали хвалить как критики, так и люди, которых я знаю лично. Поэтому, я решил поиграть сам и понять что же в игре такое хорошее, если в видео она так уныло выглядела. Оказалось, что куски, которые показывали в видео действительно не очень. Но всё остальное в игре оказалось удивительно хорошим.

Of the three NES Final Fantasy titles that I tried playing years ago, FF3 was the one that get me hooked. I still dropped it at around a quarter of the story in, but I was planning to return someday. I even gave the 3D Remake version of the game a chance, even though I really disliked the style and approach to those DS Remakes. But it wasn’t until now that I’ve finally finished Final Fantasy III. And I really liked it.

Из трех оригинальных частей Final Fantasy для NES в которые я играл раньше, FF3 меня затянула больше всего. Её я тоже не прошел до конца, но надеялся со временем вернуться. Даже в 3D Римейк игры пробовал играть, но как и с другими версиями серии для DS мне очень не понравился стиль и перемены. Но вот наконец я прошел Final Fantasy III. И она мне очень понравилась.
