O tempora is a series of retrospective posts where I play games from ages before to see if they stood the test of time.

When talking about No one Lives Forever 1 and 2, I mentioned that apart from those two, there was another Monolith Productions classic that cannot be purchased digitally – Aliens versus Predator 2. Released between NOLF 1 and 2, this game was my personal favorite of the three and I replayed it a lot. I haven’t done it in a long while, though, and after replaying the NOLF games I was a bit worried about being disappointed. But I wasn’t.

О часи — серія записів присвяченим іграм з минулого, в яких я намагаюся вирішити чи пройшли вони перевірку часом.

Описуючи No one Lives Forever 1 та 2, я сказав що окрім тих двох ігор є ще одна класика Monolith Productions, яку в цифрі придбати неможливо – Aliens versus Predator 2. Цей проект вийшов між NOLF 1 і 2, та був моїм найулюбленішим з трьох, і в свій час я проходив гру багато разів. Та я не робив цього вже дужа давно і після повернення в NOLF почав хвилюватись, що гра може мене розчарувати. Але не варто було.

The whole AvP franchise has a long history in gaming. Alien vs. Predator was a classic arcade beat’em up from Capcom. Rebellion tried their hand at turning it into an asymmetrical FPS on the Atari Jaguar and later gained a bigger recognition with the Aliens versus Predator from 99 (currently sold as Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000). Then we got an amazing Aliens versus Predator 2 from Monolith Productions which is unfortunately not sold anywhere digitally. And it still remains one of the definitive titles in the franchise (or both Alien and Predator franchises, really), nailing the horror and heroics of the Colonial Marines campaign, the mystery and the hunt of the Predator campaign and the quick, heavily movement based nature of the Alien campaign. Even more amazingly, it was one of the still incredibly few games to have one general storyline that is seen from 3 distinct perspectives depending on the campaign you play, complimenting and not contradicting itself.

And then we got this game.

После моего первого впечатления, которое DiodorOFF передал, на удивление, дословно, прошло какое-то время и полная игра. Эмоции при прохождении, как ни странно, не оставались одинаковыми, или соответствующими первому впечатлению. Вместо этого они плавно бегали от “ненавижу”, до “хм, а прикольно”, до “окей”. Поскольку случай с игрой весьма тяжелый, я пожалуй буду идти от обратного, и говорить чего в игре нет и чем она не является.
