Happy about: The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes

After the first two entries in The Dark Pictures Anthology I was skeptical, but still hopeful about the whole concept. Sure, I don’t particularly like games which heavily rely on QTEs, but that wasn’t my problem with the first games. Rather, they suffered from poor narrative and storytelling decisions, which is pretty important in an “interactive movie”-type game. I’m happy to say that third time’s a charm and House of Ashes is a genuinely entertaining horror themed interactive story.

Первые две части серии The Dark Pictures Anthology были так себе, но идея антологии мне всё равно нравилась. Да, игры с акцентом на QTE мне обычно не нравятся, но не в этом была главная проблема прошлых проектов – они расстраивали повествованием, а не геймплеем. А без хорошего повествования нет хорошего “интерактивного кино”. Но вот к третьей попытке у студии получилось, и House of Ashes – хорошее сюжетное хоррор приключение.

With the first game in the Anthology out of the way, I was curious if Little Hope is going to be any better. I still liked the concept, after all, and the fact that every story can be completely separate was promising. Overall, I liked Little Hope far more. Yet, I feel, not everyone will feel the same.

После посредственной первой игры Антологии, мне было интересно глянуть, какой получится Little Hope. Задумка оставалась интересной и то, что все истории были отдельными, могло пойти серии на пользу. В итоге, Little Hope мне понравилась больше. Но со мной могут не согласиться.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the previous titles from Supermassive Games (which I haven’t played yet due to their PS4 exclusivity), yet all of the reviews I’ve seen of this Dark Pictures Anthology project were mediocre at best. So it took me a while before I decided to check them out, starting chronologically with the Man of Medan. And, well, it’s not terrible.

Я слышал много хороших отзывов про предыдущие проекты от Supermassive Games (в которые сам не играл, так как они выходили только на PS4), но все отзывы на серию The Dark Pictures Anthology были в лучшем случае посредственными. Поэтому я и не планировал в них играть, но решил начать. По порядку с Man of Medan. Терпимая игра.
