In 2020 a surprisingly good “Resident Evil knock-off” called Heaven Dust got released. And by “knock-off” I don’t mean “a classic survival horror game”, I mean a game that actually used some of the assets of the original Resident Evil games. Except it was done in an isometric perspective and had a few ideas of its own. I liked it despite its flaws and questionable “borrowing” from the inspirations and wondered what would be next for the developers. A direct sequel, as it turned out to be. Which clearly aims to be a full on improvement but in reality is more of a mixed bag.

В 2020 вышел удивительно удачный клон “Resident Evil под названием Heaven Dust. И под “клоном” я не подразумеваю просто “классическую survival horror игру”, а проект, в котором буквально использовались ресурсы из классических Resident Evil. Только геймплей происходил с камерой в изометрии и у игры была парочка оригинальных идей. Поэтому, не смотря на эти спорные “заимствования” из RE, игра мне понравилась и мне было любопытно, что разработчики сделают дальше. Как выяснилось – сиквел проекта. Который получился спорным.
Happy about: Heaven Dust
Usually when you think of knock-off games you think about something low quality, not particularly good and full of shameless ripping from source material. Well, at least that’s what I think of. And Heaven Dust is an unapologetic knock-off of Resident Evil games. Yet, it’s surprisingly well made, despite being cheap and is actually really good. It does rip stuff directly from its inspirations, though. To the “I’m not sure this is legal to do” degree.

Обычно игры-кальки чего-то популярного получаются просто скучными или совсем плохими копиями оригинальной игры. По крайней мере, у меня опыт именно такой. И Heaven Dust можно без зазрения совести назвать калькой Resident Evil. Но игра оказалась удивительно толковой, пускай и явно дешевой. Но копирует своего кумира она бесстыже, причем порой вызывая сомнения, можно ли так вообще делать.
